    DENPASAR ~ A Jakarta-style busway is to be developed to provide cheap public transport in Denpasar and adjacent areas of Badung, Gianyar and Tabanan. The scheme was announced by the provincial government this week.
    The concept, which mimics the Sargagita Busway in Jakarta, is being touted as one solution to congestion and the availability of cheap public transport.
    Bali’s transportation chief Krisdiyanto said planners were studying the best routes and busway infrastructure would be developed on 17 arterial roads in time to start services with 20 buses in November this year.    More...
    SEMARAPURA ~ One of Bali’s largest arts centres is being created by 40 craftsmen in Klungkung Regency, which often is described as the birthplace of Balinese culture.
    The performing and visual arts centre and contemporary arts museum, named Monumen Kesenian (Arts Monument), is taking shape on 4 hectares of land that will house the centre’s buildings, a temple, ornamental ponds and gardens and a car park.
    Eight Balinese Hindu gates, each 9m-high and crafted from Papua teak, will reflect the Balinese philosophy of Asta Berata, or eight beliefs that include the essential elements of life and valued human qualities.    More...
